About Aetna Health Insurance
Aetna Health Insurance offers a variety of plans to individuals, families, and employers. Coverage differs based on plan selected, network, and individual policy.
Most Aetna plans include some benefits for urgent care and immediate treatments. However, benefits may vary and coverage may be limited. Copayments, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums vary from plan to plan.
To determine coverage specifics, review your insurance policy documents or talk to Aetna directly.
Note: NYUCC has no control over what insurance plans cover. That is completely determined by Aetna and the plan you had opted for.
Using Aetna at NYUCC
When you come to NYUCC and use Aetna insurance, the process usually works like this, although sometimes it can be different.
Registration & Check
At check-in, you will probably be asked to give:
- Your Aetna insurance card
- Photo ID (valid one)
- Some basic personal and medical info
Our staff will check your insurance in Aetna’s system. Sometimes verification may take longer than expected.
Medical Exam
After you are registered, you will be seen by a medical provider. They will ask about your symptoms, check you, and talk about possible treatment.
What services you receive depends on your condition and the provider’s judgement.
Note: Not every visit is the same.
Billing & Claims
After your visit, NYUCC sends the claim to Aetna for you. Later, Aetna will send you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) that shows:
- What services were billed
- How much insurance paid
- What you might still owe
If insurance does not cover everything, you may get a bill from NYUCC later.
Network and Coverage Issues
Some Aetna plans consider providers in-network, and some out-of-network. This can change how much you pay.
But this depends on your plan. Network status can change, so it’s best to check before your visit if possible.
For emergencies: go to the emergency room or call emergency services. Emergency rules are different from urgent care.
When You Should Visit Urgent Care
Urgent care is for medical problems that need attention soon, but are not life-threatening. People often come for things like:
If you are not sure if urgent care is right for you, contact your doctor or emergency services.
